The head gasket is a crucial engine component that acts as a barrier between the car engine block and the cylinder head. Separating the combustion chamber from the coolant channel, this device comes into contact with extremely high temperatures.
A blown head gasket is often caused by a failure arising from another part of the car. A bad head gasket will compromise the vehicle’s ability to regulate temperature. It can either be caused by the combustion chamber or the cooling system. It can also be due to the car overheating or a combination of both.

How much is it to fix a head gasket?
To determine the price for a head gasket repair or replacement, a procedure needs to be carried out first. This will find out the extent of the damage, and what exactly is blown, cracked or broken and requires a fix.
This includes:
Pressure testing the cylinder head/s and performing an inspection for any corrosion or cracks.
Removing the valves, valve seats, and valve springs to inspect for any wear.
Inspection of the cooling system. This includes the radiator head bolts, belts, hoses/pipes, water pump, thermostat, coolant caps/tanks.
Once all this has been done, only then is it possible to give you an exact price for a blown gasket repair.
Before inspecting these parts, a quote can only be given for an estimated price or an average price for the type of head gasket. This is dependent on which make, model, and age car you have.
For your peace of mind, Lube Mobile only uses guaranteed, quality parts and offers a 12 months/20,000 km warranty around Australia.
The two main ways to prevent a blown gasket is to identify the cause of the issues and to make sure the gasket is installed properly.
Signs of a blown head gasket include:
Engine overheating
Engine is running poorly or possibly misfiring
When the engine is running, there is excessive white steam coming out of the exhaust
The car has milky white oil which is due to coolant and oil contamination
When the engine is running, there are exhaust gases in the cooling system
The most notable sign that something is wrong is that the temperature gauge keeps moving up towards the red, or that there are white exhaust gasses.
If you notice any of these problems, you should immediately contact a qualified mechanic who can correctly diagnose the issues.
If you continue to drive with a blown head gasket, it increases the chance of causing engine damage which can’t be repaired. Also, you will likely find yourself broken down on the side of the road.
Radiator coolant is used by the car engine and automatic transmission to prevent it from overheating while in use. While coolant is being transferred through gaskets and seals, they prevent it from getting into internal parts like the engine crankcase. But, when a cooler fails, it leads to coolant leaking into the motor oil or engine oil. This results in coolant and oil mixing.
You will feel the car pressure start changing and building up inside the engine, automatic transmission, and cooling system when it happens. Also, if there are brown bubbles above the oil level on the dipstick, it could be a sign that a leak from the coolant into the engine oil has occurred. It’s possible the leaking oil even looks like chocolate milk.
If the coolant and oil mix, it will cause your engine to overheat. You should stop driving immediately and contact a mobile mechanic. Our mechanics will check and advise on your car's problem.
If your vehicle has developed an oil leak because of the valve cover gasket, tappet cover or rocker cover — we can help. We can also fix faulty lifters caused by oil contamination or engine sludge. In such a case, the lifters tend to make a tapping noise and can also cause the engine to malfunction.
If the temperature gauge reading of your car is being extremely high or changing erratically chances are you need to get your thermostat replaced. We can also help if the timing belt of your car needs to be replaced.
Booking our on-site service will not just save you time but also prevent unnecessary travel to and from the workshop.
